Wi-Fi® alternative topology technologies
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Aware™
Wi-Fi Aware™ offers rich here-and-now experiences by establishing independent, device-to-device Wi-Fi connections based on a user’s immediate location and preferences. Enjoy quick discovery, connection, and data exchange with other Wi-Fi devices — without the need for a traditional network infrastructure, internet connection, or GPS signal. Wi-Fi Aware enables the following features:
- Multi-directional sharing of services or information simultaneously
- Dynamic connectivity, enabling groups of devices connected through Wi-Fi Aware to maintain their connection even if one device moves out of range
- Support for both native and IP-based data exchange
- High-performance data rates and security
- Device-to-device communication scheduling to support services and applications requiring extremely low latency and high power efficiency
- Advanced privacy protections, including pairing identity resolvable only by paired devices and enabling periodic changes of over-the-air-identities
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Direct™
Wi-Fi Direct® enables devices to create their own Wi-Fi networks without an internet connection. There is no need for an access point (AP), enabling Wi-Fi Direct networks to go wherever devices go. Wi-Fi Direct devices can transfer or display content, play games, and share applications quickly and easily. Wi-Fi Direct enables the following features:
- Enables devices to connect directly to each other
- Establishment of either a one-to-one connection, or a group of several devices can connect simultaneously
- View available devices and request a connection or receive an invitation to connect to another device
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED EasyMesh®
Wi-Fi EasyMesh™ brings a standards-based approach to Wi-Fi networks that utilize multiple APs, combining the benefits of easy-to-use, self-adapting Wi-Fi with greater flexibility in device choice. Wi-Fi EasyMesh networks employ multiple APs that work together to form a unified network, and can guide devices to the best AP and modify the network structure based on changing conditions. Wi-Fi EasyMesh brings the following capabilities to home and small office Wi-Fi networks:
- Increased network capacity by supporting more simultaneous services and higher realized throughput when operating in Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E
- Flexible design by allowing for best placement of multiple APs providing extended coverage
- Seamless, secure device onboarding and configuration using QR codes through Wi-Fi Easy Connect™
- Prioritizes low latency applications when needed and guides devices to roam to the best connection and avoid interference
- Scalability by enabling the addition of Wi-Fi EasyMesh APs from multiple vendors
Tunneled Direct Link Setup
Allows network-connected devices to create a secure, direct link to transfer data more efficiently. Tunneled Direct Link Setup (TDLS) allows client devices to establish a better Wi-Fi link without user intervention and take advantage of MAC/PHY features that may not be supported or offered by the AP. By sending Wi-Fi data directly between two client devices, TDLS reduces the number of hops required thus increasing the overall performance in throughput, latency, and interference avoidance.
