Wi-Fi Alliance® offers multiple paths to certification
Certifying your Wi-Fi devices ensures product quality, interoperability, and security.
Wi-Fi Alliance® provides three paths to achieving Wi-Fi CERTIFIED®: FlexTrack, QuickTrack, and Derivative. These paths were designed to meet the diverse needs of Wi-Fi Alliance member companies looking to attain Wi-Fi certification. Whether you are building a custom Wi-Fi product or leveraging another member’s Wi-Fi module, Wi-Fi Alliance offers a suitable path to certification.
FlexTrack
FlexTrack allows member companies to certify Wi-Fi products with the maximum amount of flexibility. Intended for highly differentiated Wi-Fi products built from the ground up, FlexTrack offers certification of products with a high degree of Wi-Fi customization and optimization. Testing is completed at an Authorized Test Laboratory (ATL).
QuickTrack
QuickTrack allows certification of Wi-Fi products that are based on Qualified Solutions. Qualified Solutions are modules, chipsets, and other solutions that have already undergone certification testing. QuickTrack allows targeted changes to Wi-Fi functionality. QuickTrack product testing can take place either on site at a member company or at an Authorized Test Laboratory (ATL). This certification path provides a simpler, faster, and lower cost option for certifying Wi-Fi products.
Derivative
The derivative path allows members to certify products that use identical Wi-Fi designs, such as multiple television models with the same Wi-Fi module. No additional testing is required for derivative certification.
Wi-Fi® test tools
Wi-Fi Alliance offers tools designed for both QuickTrack and FlexTrack certification paths. These tools not only help members certify their products, but they can also be integrated in member product development and quality assurance processes.
QuickTrack Test Tool
The QuickTrack Test Tool includes QuickTrack conformance testing software provided by Wi-Fi Alliance that is then run on a QuickTrack hardware platform, such as a laptop. Testing may be completed at an Authorized Test Laboratory (ATL) or member testing site. This tool is proprietary in nature and only for Wi-Fi Alliance member use. The QuickTrack methodology is available to Sponsor, Contributor, Affiliate, and Small Business Introductory Participant members.
The QuickTrack Test Tool provides a cost-effective testing platform for both achieving Wi-Fi CERTIFIED status and performing quality checks on a regular basis as device designs are updated. Members may choose to implement the QuickTrack Test Tool into their product development and quality assurance process.
Wi-Fi Test Suite
Wi-Fi Test Suite is a software platform developed by Wi-Fi Alliance to support certification program development and device certification. Wi-Fi Test Suite is used by ATLs to certify Wi-Fi Alliance members’ products primarily utilizing the FlexTrack certification path.
Open-source components of Wi-Fi Test Suite are made available to the public to help advance the Wi-Fi Alliance interoperability and quality mission. Wi-Fi Test Suite embraces technological innovation by being adaptable to all types of unique, diverse, and cutting-edge devices. Both Wi-Fi Alliance members and non-members can conduct their own internal testing using the industry standard API and tool set. For companies considering Wi-Fi Alliance membership, products developed and tested with Wi-Fi Test Suite will streamline the process of obtaining certification when they become members. Eligible membership levels for using Wi-Fi Test Suite to certify products include: Contributor, Affiliate, and Small Business Introductory Participant.
Non-proprietary components are provided under the ISC License and can be accessed at the Wi-Fi Test Suite open source project on GitHub. Both Wi-Fi Alliance members and non-members can contribute to the Wi-Fi Test Suite open source project. All code will be reviewed by the community maintainer, Wi-Fi Alliance. Please review the contribution agreement prior to submitting a pull request. Eligible Wi-Fi Alliance members can access the full software package, including proprietary components, on the Wi-Fi Alliance members-only site.
Wi-Fi Test Suite provides the following services:
- Configure - Automatically configure devices to execute test cases
- Traffic Generation - Generate traffic streams with specified parameters
- Test - Execute test scripts by controlling test bed device operation
- Results Analysis - Determine pass/fail results based on a given test case or script criteria
Wi-Fi Test Suite accomplishes these services through the following components:
Control API (CAPI)
The Control API serves as the fundamental command language for device management, test configuration, and test execution within Wi-Fi Test Suite.
Unified CAPI Console (UCC)
The Unified CAPI Console provides the overall control console for Wi-Fi Test Suite. UCC can be downloaded through the open source repository or by members in the most recent Wi-Fi Test Suite package.
Control Agents
Control agents are a proxy in which a CAPI control command is converted for the device into the device’s native control interface. APs, DUTs, sniffers, and STAs may require control agents. Sample control agent code can be downloaded through the open source repository (Windows or Linux) or by members in the most recent Wi-Fi Test Suite package.
Sniffer
The sniffer captures and dissects wired and wireless frames, and performs packet analysis. Sniffer dissectors are available on Wireshark or, for Wi-Fi Alliance certification program specific dissectors, in the most recent Wi-Fi Test Suite package.
Traffic Generator
The traffic generator produces specific traffic on behalf of Test Bed STA, DUT, or PC Endpoint. Traffic generators are included in the open source repository (Windows or Linux) and in the most recent Wi-Fi Test Suite package.
PC Endpoint
The PC Endpoint generates network traffic in support of a particular test plan via the wired Test Network. PC Endpoint software is included in the Linux control agent code and in the most recent Wi-Fi Test Suite package.
Wi-Fi Alliance certification program test scripts
CAPI command scripts are the Wi-Fi Test Suite specific instantiations of Wi-Fi Alliance test plans. Wi-Fi Alliance certification program test scripts are only available to members in the most recent Wi-Fi Test Suite package.
